Reversing is difficult enough without having a restricted view of what is behind you. Certain van makes and models reduce the visibility or the rear of the vehicle, for example the Ford Transit 2014/2015 has a solid bulkhead (see image below) fitted which restricts the view of the back of the vehicle making it harder for the driver to carry out simple tasks, such as parking.
The driver’s awareness and view of people or objects may be hindered by the size of the vehicle, badly positioned mirrors and even by other vehicles in the vicinity. This can be extremely dangerous and can affect the speed at which the driver is able to get around.
One solution to restricted views is having a reversing camera and mirror monitor fitted to the vehicle. In-car gadgets like these help with visibility and automatically activate when the vehicle is in reverse, meaning the driver can see easily what is behind them within the safety of their vehicle.
