In a bid to keep up with technological changes, the DVLA are working in association with Apple to produce a “digital driving licence” in the UK.
This licence will NOT replace the existing plastic licences but instead will be an “add-on” feature.
Wallet – the app in which the digital driving licence is set to be used- already stores boarding passes, credit, debit, gift and discount cards. Payment information is encrypted end-to-end and authorised with the user’s fingerprint or passcode.
The digital licence is currently only a prototype – and the DVLA have said they are looking into any security issues that may arise. Watch this space.
